#19275, "Animal Gods"

Does anyone know what happens to the children of animal gods? In "The Realms of The Gods", it says Daine hears a wolf pack howling, along with pups. When they grow, what happens to the young? Are they extra-smart, or like regular wolves? Do they go to the mortal realms and live like normal wolves? Thanks!

Yeah, I never really thought about that. Maybe they become minor gods. And obviously the Human Gods have kids with mortals (Daine), but do the animal Gods have babies with mortal animals? That would get confusing.

I think they would probably be like the wolves that Daine has been around a lot- smarter than most wolves, but mortal.

If Daine has magic that lets her talk to animals, do you think animals can have magic that lets them talk to humans? Or is magic just a human thing?

Ya, I've wondered about this, because if there's only one First Oak or whatever in the entire Realms of the Gods, it must be a pretty barren place.

This is just what I think, it probably isn't true:
Well, remember how the frog the Platypus ate? It came back to life. So, maybe the wolf pups are the wolf gods that died.

Yes, but they heard the wolf PACK, which means there were adults AND pups, so why would there be pups and adults at the same time? Or do the animals have many gods like the humans do, and the pups are gods as well?

I'd think they would scatter throughout the Divine Realms and form their own packs/herds/forests, etc. And I'd imagine that some break through into the Mortal Realms and settle and die after a much longer lifespan than the purely mortal animals. They would be smarter than mortals, too, but since they're animals, humans wouldn't notice in most cases. (I bet a lot of them settle far from humans, for that matter.) Or if a god tires, s/he lets one of her/his offspring take over and s/he journeys into the Black God's realms (or the mortal world).

The First Oak isn't lonely--it's surrounded by its children. There has to be a First Forest, yes?

Everything has to change. If the mortal realms are a reflection of the divine ones, change has to be allowed there, too, though it won't take the same form as the mortal ones. Change is just more structured in the Divine Realms, since they're about order. Uusoae's realms are about change for the sake of change, which is why order and chaos have to balance--both are needed for life, but having one more powerful than the other makes life meaningless.

I always assumed that Faithful was the male cat god. Is his real name Bitebone?

I think it's neat how there are a pair for each species.

I thought that too....I've never been completely positive on the story of Faithful, though. I think he might be the male cat god...but I just don't know!

He seems to hang out with the Goddess, though -- wasn't he the purple-eyed cat Daine saw sitting in the Goddess seat in TRoTG (wasn't that a classic Faithful move?)

I figured he was sort of like the Goddess' right-hand man. Like, he adopted Alanna to help her out and guide her so that she could do what the Goddess needed. A servant. *shrugs*

Hahahaha maybe they're on equal terms with each other.

Maybe Faithful is one of the offspring of the cat gods. I think that it would be cool if maybe he was in the first litter of the domestic cat gods, giving him some interesting traits and whatnot, and he's a demi-god of somesort, not something really defineable but interesting.. and he bonds with the Goddess like I bond with my kitties. I'm as much as their pet as they are mine, in many respects.

But I'm just a cat freak.

I think that he's a cat god...I mean, maybe a lesser animal god? Maybe he was sent to Alanna by the goddess to help her with her quest...oh, and when he 'died', he said "time to go home", which means back to the realm of the gods...maybe...
