Okay so I have this question/problem. A lot of you seem to think that Aly would have been better off with taybur?

Yeah they are alike. But they are tooo alike. i look at him like...an honorary older brother (or younger). He could be a great friend/spy friend.

I mean Nawat loves her...no questions. whatever she would do, he would still love her. He wants her for life. Nawati is kind, caring, funny and good looking. Plus he understands her work, and that its important to her. He may not seem like it but he is a sly tough cookie. He will but won't put up with some of her crap. I think he would keep her good. Like she says that sometimes its really easy to just kill so much you lose your humanity. I think Nawat is one of the things that helps her keep her humanity. So then why do some of ya'll not think he's good for her?

I mean don't get me wrong I adore Taybur I thought he was one of the best characters, but I don't think he was good for Aly.

What do you guys think. Nawat or Taybur and please tell me why? why do you think one is better for her than the other?

Well, *I* think the most deciding factor is that Nawat loves Aly, and Taybur is not in the least interested. And it's not impossible that Aly could like someone who didn't like her back...

...speaking of that, when is there gonna be a main, good, female character who likes a main, good male guy who isn't interested in her?

yeah... Kel and Neal. duh.

I believe my stance on the issue is that Aly and Nawat belong together... but if Nawat wasn't in the picture, Aly and Taybur would do quite nicely. She even thinks he's handsome!

I liked Taybur, but I personally think he'd be better off with Dove when she's older. I like Aly/Nawat.

A point here, one that not everyone may know about. After Numair, I got so many screeching protests about age gaps and my own love of older men that I have publicly sworn never again to have a humongous age gap between my female heroes and the people they end up with (George is seven years older than Alanna, Numair 17 years older than Aly). Taybur is 35 or thereabouts.

They would have come looking for me with torches and pitchforks. For Aly, for Dove. Trust me.

I was thinking Winna, but I asked her, and she says she doesn't think she would want to have another husband after Mequen. She might change her mind, but not for a long time.

Yes, Taybur and Aly flirted. Neither or them could help flirting, anymore than they could help breathing. But Aly at one point thought that if she thought for a moment he was serious, she'd have to put him at arm's length, because her real interest is in Nawat.

See...I was thinking Taybur would be good for Kel. Since that'll never happen....hmmm....maybe Aly has someone in her spy network she can fix him up with.

I know.

I never said I liked having to swear I'd never do another older guy. Nawat's age confusion is my little bit of authorly revenge.

The funny thing is, I married a man who is two years younger than I am.

The even funnier thing? Everyone thinks he's older than me, and not just because he's bald!

My Pop-pop is seven years older than my Nana. My friend's grandfather is twenty years older than her grandmother. *shrugs* If people really love each other, I don't really mind larger age gaps. But I don't think a twelve year old should go marrying a thirty year old, at least not until she's older.

Aha! More proof that Tortall (and the Copper Isles) do live in Tammy's linen closet.

I personally don't have and never HAVE had a problem with age gaps. I probably wouldn't end up with a guy 14 years older than me (or 18, in the case of Aly/Taybur) but it's fine for people I read about. Not that that matters.

Ooh, that reminds me. Are the Copper Isles still going to be called that now that Dove is on the throne? Or are they reverting back to the Kyprish Isles?

I thought Taybur was awesome! He was one of my favourite people in that book, but I really wouldn't want for Aly to have married him. As much as Nawat bothered me in TC, he has greatly improved in my opinion in TQ, and I am way glad that he married Aly and vice-versa.

I really like Nawat and Aly together. I think Taybur was right where he should have been. My heart cried for him when he walked off the boat with the little King in his arms. There is just something about a man that cares for someone that much. And you could tell that he really cared for Dunevon. Moreso than even his parents. Kind of sad, but that's the way they were.

As for Nawat, he became human for Aly, and someone who would give up the only life they had for someone else is truly remarkable. Everything he does he does it for her. In TQ he wants to be a man, not just for himself, but for Aly. He wants to a be useful to her, and not just to carry messages for her. He wants to fight for her. That is true love. And that's all I have to say about that.

You were the one, you were the only one, and you were amazing. ~Gia
