I kept meaning to read it and meaning to read it and meaning to read it...And then I kept meaning to post about it and meaning to post about it and meaning to post about it...And finally I decided to get my priorities straight, because this is obviously a little more important than my quiz tomorrow.
Anyway, I would like to say I LOVED it! It was worth neglecting my Kanji study. I love the first person, I've always been willing to suspend disbelief for a first person narrative, and I like that Faithful...Pounce...Whatever...Is back. I just hope he doesn't die violently this time around because I bawled my eyes out the last time because he's much too good of a critter to have to die violently. Maybe Tammy will let him die of old age or something peaceful this time. Maybe we'll find out what his function is as an immortal when he isn't helping the protaganists become living legends. I'd like to know that eventually, even if it isn't in a book. Regardless, I enjoyed how he charmed his way into the patrol, I think he did something similar to Alanna's training masters, apparently he hasn't changed a bit over the centuries!
I wonder, will we run into some of the last female knights before Alanna? I seem to recall Coram telling Alanna that the last lady knights had been two hundred years before Alanna's time. Maybe this book will offer some explanation as to why they died out? I've always wanted to know why they stopped existing.
And I really like the slang, how the interpersonal relationships and interactions are described, and the detail of the Lower City. It makes Beka more real to me, especially since her social class and background is so different from Alanna's, Aly's, Kel's, or even Daine's. I'm really looking forward to getting to know this earlier Tortall. And there is also the fact that Beka and I share a nickname, which is a really, really silly reason to be happy because it's purely coincidental, but that plus the fact that Beka is tall and shy like me made me do a happy dance.
And I just figured out that six weeks from now Tammy will be signing books a mere fifteen minutes away and I can go meet her (sort of) and get a book signed (I may not have money to buy Terrier upon its release because it's hardcover but darn it, I WILL FIND SIX DOLLARS TO BUY A NEW PAPERBACK COPY OF LIONESS RAMPANT AND GET IT SIGNED)! I'm very, very, VERY excited!!!
So I've had a pretty awesome day on account of the excellent preview and the news of a chance to get a book signed. Thank you!
