(start spoiler(s))ok, first i wanna say that i am awed, but rarely am i ever this awed (quote from some book by tammy, i frget which one. *whacks self on head as punishment for forgetting which book*). anywho, why did tammy have to make cleon and kel break up? i know that he wasn't able to "talk mother around", but did she have to do it so suddenly? also, i am SURE that it was mentioned in some post or another (archived by now) that miri was gonna be in lk. she wasn't mentioned even once. ok, i know that i have more questions, but WHAT ARE THEY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??(end spoiler(s))ok, i hope the font color worked. or would it be the lack of font color?

His people would have starved. D'you remember when Faleron mentioned the flooding in the southwestern hills and Cleon said the floods had washed out the storehouses? I thought that was really sad.

Yeah, now I remember that part too. Alanna was introducing them and Buri didn't think George would remember her name.
I agree witht that though. Why did we have to end the Kel/CLeon thing? I'm sure they can still work it out! He wasn't even in it after that (as far as I can remember)! The whole time after when Dom is around though, I'm saying, "Come on, Dom, you only have like 50 more pages to get the girl." Then the pages got less and less. She didn't have to end up with some one, but it would have been nice.
Everyone noticed where they were going in the end right? For Raoul and Buri. I was so happy. It was really good.

i know how you feel! i was like come on dom. you can't get the girl in 10 pages, kick up the pace! and then at the end i was crying because it was over and i wanted to get on my knees and scream WHY TAMMY? *this has been an overdramatization by mandy* i love the little romances in all her books and i was /dissapointed/ by the lack of romance in this one. *pouts* but i'll live because it was still awesome none-the-less.

At the end i felt like crying. I loved the book, don't get me wrong, but why couldnt something have happened with Dom and Kel? I understand that there was no way to make the cleon thing work out, but at the end i was just left there with that amazing book, thinking, "did they maybe forget to print what happens to Kel?" i mean, we have an idea about what happens to Alanna and Daine. I want to know what happens to Kel!!!!!

Both my sister and I had exactly the same feeling. Maybe by leaving the end of the book open ended we may (if we are lucky!) get another one about Kel. Or she may have a pivotal role in a different series. Just have to wait and see I guess.

I wanted something to happen, but we have to keep a few things in mind:

1) Kel is only 18 at the end of LK. It's quite possible that she won't "end up" with anyone for a looong time (think Raoul, Buri, or Numair here).

2) Maybe Kel never will end up with anyone. Tammy said in the Lady Knight Discussion thread that (this is in NO WAY exact) she wanted to show that girls can get around and have a life without being in love with some man.

3) Even if Kel does "end up" with Dom, he's in the King's Own. They can't marry, remember? But yes, it could be like a Daine/Numair thing, I guess....

4) I believe Tammy has said she kinda wants to write more about Kel later on in life. We'll find out more then (even if it is a good 5 years away, what with all the other books Tammy's going to write first).

3) Raoul's marrying Buri and he is. He's just leaving The Kings Own. And remember, Kel has said she wants to have a family, but not right away. She wants to have lots of adventures first. I bet Dom shares that opinion too. So they could just not get married until they both feel they're ready to leave.

4) Yay! But we shouldn't get our hopes up. She's an indentured bond servant to Random House for another 7 books (I think) and if there's going to be more Kel books they won't come out for quite a while.

Raoul can get married because he's the Knight Commander. no one else can get married in the Own. and he isn't leaving! Buri is gonna give her Commander position in the Queen's Riders up to Evin Larse.

Don't worry! There's still hope. I think Tammy is just teasing us.

Direct quote from the final page of LK...

Lovers, Kel thought, rolling her eyes. At least there was one headache she didn't have. She was about to tell her friend that he could wait, when she remembered she'd get to see Dom at Steadfast. It would be nice to be able to sit and chat for a while, without kidnapping, flight and war to distract them.

Yay, he's still free! More of him in fanfics for me!
"Come back to me, Dom!" *Travel-To-Tortall self-insertion-of-author character chases Dom out of the room. Dom has a look of extreme terror on his face and is running as fast as possible, meanwhile whipping out the cell phone that the Crazy Fanfic Author gave him and trying to get his lawyer on the phone to get a restraining order made up (another courtesy of the Crazy Fanfic Author)* Ah, those little self-insertion characters. So unlike the real author! *Shakes head, then goes back to little fanfic scene in head. Acquires a dreamy smile and eyes glaze over.* "Dom..."

They didn't really bother with a betrothal--they just decided they weren't getting any younger and got married.

After so much time, I wouldn't expect her to still feel the same way. I mean, she's only like 19. My sister and I guessed from the very beginning at Haven that Kel had feelings for Dom again/still. It just took Kel a couple hundred pages longer. The end of the book, to me, was a clear sign that Dom was gonna be with Kel.

I totally saw Kel and Cleon's break up coming, so I wasn't surpsied at all. I thought it was a great twist. If Cleon broke his word to his betrothed, he would be plagued by guilt for the rest of his life and would be unhappy with Kel. he's too honourable. And besides, now Kel and Dom can end up together (which is far better than Kel and Cleon anyway).

I was so happy at the end when you find out that Roald and Shinko have married and Neal and Yuki and Raoul and Buri are getting married. Maybe Kel and Dom will get married in the future (although not before they've had their share of battles, managing New Hope and kicking Scanran butt).

Unfortunately, I knew what was going to happen to Haven before it happened, because I read Tammy's authors note first by accident (well a little, before I realized it had spoilers and I stopped). Luckily, everybody didn't die as I thought would happen, they just got taken prisoner.

*grins* I did that too. I read the line talking about what happened to Haven, and I startle and quickly flipped to the front. Then sometime later, I came accross a chapter called "Shattered Sanctuary" and I thought oh no... I have to say though, that I really liked how Tammy put faces on the dead people, and they were not just bits of the scenery. They came alive and it just made the book feel so much more real, and it added to the trajedy and gave the war an extra dimension- something not alot of authors can pull off well.

The exact same thing happened to me. When I came to Shattered Sanctuary I was like "Oh noooo!!! Please don't let this happen".

I agree that Tammy did write the war part very well and made it very real.

The only criticism I have is that the part with Blayce was kind of anticlimatic. It ended so quickly and easily. I was expecting him to put up more of a fight. I was happy for Kel, that she wouldn't get killed trying to fight him off, but kind of disappointed still.

I read the author's note first too... my friend Emily was paging through the book and the words 'September 11' popped out, and I made her stop flipping, lol.

I dunno. I thought Cleon and Kel's breakup made the whole thing more realistic. In the kind of time period things are set in in Tammy's books, it is very common to have arranged marriages, especially after flooding of storehouses. I never really thought Cleon's mother would be talked around... there is that whole element of Kel's "questionable reputation."

Anyway, I completely empathize with Kel's shifting opinions of men! Now *that* was a realistic touch, although it was a tad redundant the second time (I shouldn't be talking). And Kel's opinion of Cleon changed rather fast... But I DID like that part, so don't get me wrong!

Anyway, Tammy, you've got a brilliant editrix. I mean, I know you wrote it, but I was thinking about how some of Mercedes Lackey's books weren't very well edited AT ALL while I was reading LK, and I really started to think about the editing in books. Grr, that sounded weird. *shrugs*

When i first read squire I went totally mental when kel and cleon kissed and the lack of romance in Lady Knight (I haven't read it yet but from what I've heard) kinda dissapoints me too. But if Neal and Yuki and Raoul and Buri get together then I suppose I'm happy

arg!! i was so sad when Cleon and Kel didn't get together. I mean it could have worked. Tammy would just have to write in a really really really really great deed or something and than the king would just give them money! but oh well. and i agree that there should have been some romance but overall it was an awesome awesome awesome awesome book!!!!!!!

It was really, really good. I saw the dedication, though, and I showed mum and she cried. Oh, and what was with neal the whole way through? he was...wierd. I like that thing Lord Wyldon said though 'If they hadnt killed him within 2 weeks I would have to see if he was drugging their water.' To true.

Katy.
