Hey All,

Does anyone know anything about the Alianne books because I'm pretty confused and at the minute can't really find any good sources for information. If you know anything that would help to help de-fuzz my brain go right ahead and leave a message.

OK, Alianne is the daughter of Alanna and George. She's kind of the opposite of Alanna. She's kind of a girly- girl (I think) and she does stuff like pick locks and that kind of thing.
Her older brother, Thom goes off to the university. When Alianne goes to visit him, the popular fad is dying your hair blue, so she does it, and when Alanna finds out, they get into a fight, and Alianne runs away from home (I think)
Then she ends up in the copper isles, I think she takes place in a slave revolt, (Maybe leads it) and the Trikster (one of the main gods) shows up a lot.

Kind of, sort of... when she runs away she is captured by peoples from the Copper Isles and sold as a slave. And she's not that much of a girly-girl. The general idea is that she is more like her father rather than her mother.

*disagrees* No, she is kind of a girly-girl. Not a complete ditz- she's learned a lot from her father- but is completely unintrested in weapon fighting and such. Yes, she goes and dyes her hair blue, and yes they have a fight and she runs off. She gets captured and sold into slavery in the Copper Isles. From there, I'm not sure, but I think Tammy said that she's going to lead a slave revolt there.

Okay I am kind of getting the vibe that she is different from George and Alanna. I think she is kind of a wild child because she dies her hair blue without permission but she has guts cos she runs away from home. She probably has more of a streetfighter style because of her Dad but she doesn't want to be a Criminal and she probably doesn't want to be a knight or a Lady either. I reckon she will probably end up part of the Rogue though like th first female Queen of the Rogue or She will be the Kings Spymaster or something but she will still be really different from george and Alanna.

Okay, some changes have occurred, because I am now rewriting the book (this always happens). So here's the latest:

Aly is no longer a girly-girl. That part just didn't work. She is also no longer 13 and sulky, but 16 and as laid back as her Da. She also learned just about everything George, Alanna, Myles, Thayet, Jonathan, Daine and Numair had to teach her. The only thing she really wants out of life is to be a field agent, and since neither Da nor Mother will countenance it, she decides to kick back and have fun. Partly because she's tired of both parents nagging her about doing something with her life, and partly because her parents haven't seen each other for a year and she wants to give them quality time, she sails down the coast to Port Legann, except she never arrives--she sails into a pirate fleet, is captured, and is sold into the Copper Isles as a slave.

Kyprioth, a trickster god, shows up and offers her a wager: that she can't keep her owners' four children alive through the summer. If she wins, she gets a boon from Kyprioth and he speaks to her father about letting her be a real spy. If she loses, she has to serve him for a year. She figures it's something to do, so she agrees. Then she finds out that paranoid King Oron has taken one of his dislikes to her owners, and they are being exiled to their remotest lands until he feels better about them or until he sends a death squad after them, whichever comes first. Suddenly being low slave on the totem pole and keeping these folks alive becomes a serious job.

The book now opens the second spring of the Scanran war, after the events of LADY KNIGHT, so we learn officially that Daine's pregnant and marrying Numair. And Aly is having 'way more fun in this book than the last draft.

I think Trickster's Choice (I believe that's what it's called) is scheduled to come out next fall... but Lady Knight was scheduled to come out earlier than it actually did, so you can't be entirely sure.
About Daine's baby -- no one knows its gender. It keeps shapeshifting.

But she no longer has a falling-out over it with her mother, and she doesn't technically run away? That is a different Aly.

So does Alanna just accept a blue-haired daughter? Actually, I think that's more like Alanna than her having a fit over it.

I don't know how I missed this, but I never read this bit until today. I never thought it made much sense that Alanna would freak out about Aly's blue hair, so I'm glad that it's still going to be blue but her mom doesn't freak out about it!

thats great tammy -- I never thought of Aly being sulky, anyway, from what I gleaned in the immortals. She seemed to be the type who wanted to be out there; and that is what she is doing. And no, I couldn't imagine her not dying her hair blue. It makes sense. Good luck with the editing/draft writing/manuscripting/writing!
